Building up to the Ringbeam Level

February 15th, 2009
I went to Katikamu today to see how the community was coming along with the school building project. They've been working for several days to level out the earth inside of each of the classrooms. It's been more difficult than George William predicted because the ground is much rockier than presumed.

Earth is being leveled in each of the three classrooms by community members in preparation for slabbing the soon to be floors
The children of Katikamu are curious as ever to see the building they will be learning from soon
A great deal of progress has been made in just a few weeks
where the foundation ends the local bricks stop and the interlocking bricks are built above
Here community members are digging earth that will be placed around the perimeter of the building putting the local brick foundation underground. A veranda will later be built around the front of the building
The necessary materials needed for completing the floors of the classroom are already on site and will be used once the earth is completely leveled in each room
The classroom block is well under way!
