LUCY

September 1st, 2008Lucy is a lovely, young, Ugandan woman staying in the guest house with me here. She is doing a basic nursing internship at Bishop Asili, while waiting for her studies to begin in February. She came to my room to ask me if I had any novels that she might be able to borrow. I asked her if she prefers fiction or non-fiction. Through discussion we concluded that she really does need to read the Narnia series. I gave her the first two books to start out with. I can't wait to get her feedback after a few chapters. It's going to be lots of fun discussing those books with her. What does that conversation sound like? What will a young woman in Uganda think about "The Magicians Nephew"? And what will she think about the fact that she shares the same namesake as one of the main characters in the books? I live for these kinds of interactions.
