Janka and Annika and I went to visit the Katikamu community once more to see the leveling of the land where the Just Like My Child Foundation school building project will commence. By the time we got there the land was already completely leveled. There were children gathered on it playing football. When the land levelers first arrived they were fairly certain that the machine they brought was not going to be strong enough to level such a large and rocky area. Ben Oliang, the Project Coordinator, begged them to try their hardest and was on the land with them the entire day making sure that they were working to their fullest ability. He even fed them lunch and kept them hydrated so that they stayed refreshed and full of energy. He was so proud of that leveled land. I really think that even with the brick making machines arriving and everything else this was the first time that it hit Ben that this school will actually be built. We sat with Ben for several hours and discussed the upcoming week. We discussed the need to call the pit latrine excavators straight away to get them started on digging so that we can use the earth from their pits for brick making. We also discussed the necessity for deciding who we are going to get to supply our cement for the building project because several bags will be needed for the process of making bricks.
