Just Like My Child Foundation has purchased two brick making presses for Bishop Asili Hospital to utilize for building projects and income generation. Katikamu is borrowing the brick making presses to make the necessary blocks for the Just Like My Child Foundation primary school building project. Katikamu has been working tirelessly for many days to make these environmentally friendly interlocking bricks that require no firewood burning in the drying process and less cement while building.
A mixture of earth, sand, cement and water is required for the making of the bricks. A great deal of measurement and careful mixing takes place in order to ensure that the bricks are solid when complete.

The mixture is then shoveled and brought to the brick press

The earth concoction is packed loosely into the brick mold

The lid to the brick mold is then closed

A lever is pulled from a great height to compress the earth into the interlocking brick shape. It takes a great deal of strength to pull the lever down.

The lid to the brick mold is lifted and the lever is then brought to the other side to be pulled down once more.

This second pull of the lever pushes the brick up out of the mold

The bricks are compressed into their shape and ready to be dried with good old natural sunshine

Just look at that lovely brick!

The brick is then lifted off of the mold so that earth can be brought for the making of the next brick

The finished bricks are stacked neatly for drying and counting
